Julieta Hayag

I just received some very sad news about my supervising physician, Julieta Hayag. On Monday, October 10th 2005, she passed away. I really loved this lady. She struggled with her health the entire time I was there and inspite of that, she was always there for her patients.

There were days I was in her office asking her questions more often than I care to admit. She was patient and kind. When I was learning to read EKG's, if she had something special or different she would keep them to show me.

She loved flowers and would nurture her garden. In the mornings when she would come into her office, she invariably had a flower from her garden that she would put on her desk. This brought her great joy. She was simple. She loved her job and her patients. She did research on the efficacy of a test for deep vein thrombosis. She was quiet. She was a leader. She always strived to do better.

If I needed her to see a patient, she NEVER refused.

She taught me how to make pancet (?) - a Philippino dish that she used to make and it was always better when she made it.

When I left Kaiser in May to come to Bosnia she was quietly suffering from pancreatitis. The tumors grew during that time. When she was healthy enough to get chemo, it didn't touch the tumors. They tried a different type of chemo....That too was ineffective. I guess God felt he needed her in heaven more than we needed her here. All I can say is I suspect the old adage is true: Only the good die young.
