Zagreb, Croatia
Mark has been doing some work on a project in Zagreb. He was going for 3 days and I decided to go with him. We left Sarajevo on Tues Nov 1 about 1 pm. The road through Bosnia didn't have a lot of traffic and tt took us only about 3 1/2 hrs to get to the border of Croatia. We waited about an hour to get through the intersection to get over the border. We finally got on the highway in Croatia and we were traveling very well until we got about 17km from Zagreb and everything came to a halt. Took another hour to get through that mess. We were told it could take about 5 hrs to get to Zagreb, however, it took us about 7 1/2-8hrs to get there. It seemed to take forever and we hadn't gotten out of the car once. We were a little stiff when we finally got here.

This is a view of the city from our hotel room.
Mark wanted to take me to a nice Italian restaurant he knew, but it was closed. What we didn't realize is that Nov 1 is All Saints Day and is a big holiday there. So we ended up having Chinese food. The food was good. The pleasant Chinese waitress didn't speak english and had trouble understanding Mark's Bosnian. We were really wishing Megan was with us. We knew she would have been able to communicate with the waitress.
Mark went to work the next day. It was cool and overcast. Seems to be a general weather pattern in the Balkans. I walked around and went to some very nice museums. I had lunch at the hotel, thinking that was a safe thing to do, but it only made me sick.....really really sick. I was so sick I couldn't go out that evening. I was pretty weak and my poor little stomach was pretty unhappy. I spent the second day in the hotel.

St. Mark's Church has the Croatian Crest in mozaic tiles on the roof. Really cool to look at

The third day, I was feeling so much better. Thank God!
I had several reasons for going to Zagreb with Mark. One, I hadn't been there and really wanted to see it. Second, I am taking a photography class on line and my next assignment was patterns. Thirdly, I have been on a hunt for a heat gun used for embossing for my scrapbook projects and thought this city might have one.

So I started about 9am and walked to one part of the old city. The city has two hills and to get from one to the other I had to climb 200 - yes two hundred- steps to get to the other part of the old city. I got some great photos of buildings and hope they will be helpful in my photo class. Then I walked much further and found the "big hobby shop"- which was about the size of a Subway shop. They had embossing powder but no heat gun. I was pretty frustrated at that.
I went back to the hotel and had a massage. That helped with some of the stress of the walk and frustration.

Some pretty flowers in front of a restaurant I took for my photo class. The subject was patterns and perception. I really liked this photo.
I don't think I had the best experience in Zagreb considering I was sick during the visit. However, what I did see was very impressive. I would go back there again.
